There is nothing like enjoying the comfort of your home. I mean…light a candle, have a warm meal and enjoy relaxing music or snuggle up to a good book. Creating comfort isn’t just about how your home looks but more-so how it feels.
Overall, it truly comes down to making your space enjoyable and relaxing for you and your family and ensuring peace dwells there. So here are 5 simple ways to create comfort in your home.
Set the Scene

There’s no debating that comfort starts with cleanliness. Make sure that as you’re preparing your home for comfort, you start with a quick tidying up. Deep cleaning is essential but for a daily dose of comfort, a quick tidying up will do the trick. Make sure the clean dishes are put away and the living room space is clear of clutter and ready to be utilized. Most importantly, make sure that when you sit down, everything within view is organized and put in its proper place. A clean space not only invites comfort but it relaxes your mind when things are in order and you don’t have the weight of a cluttered table or a stack of mail on your mind.
Create Ambiance

Ambiance is important wherever you go, your home is no different. Dim the lights, or turn off all bright LED lighting and instead light a candle. A soft fragrance and hints of yellow or amber glows in the midst of a room automatically transforms a room from “busy and bright” to “reserved and relaxed”. Never underestimate the functionality of candle…it can bring all the cozy feels and put you in the mood of a light and airy summer, a cozy fall or a wintery Christmas depending on the scent. Not to mention, you probably already have one in your home. If candles aren’t your thing and you’re more of a boiling cinnamon sticks with orange peels and vanilla type of girl, there is no shame. Whatever gives your home a fragrant and relaxing feel…do it.
Blankets, Poufs, all the Fuzzy Things

We cannot forget the soft things. Your favorite warm blanket, poufs to help stretch your legs out on or those pair of fuzzy socks that you love to put on while lounging around the house. Grab them all, put on your coziest lounge wear and get ready to enjoy all the fuzzy feels.
Curate the Menu

Comfort isn’t fully complete without comfort food. And it doesn’t have to be unhealthy to be comforting. Prepare your favorite meal, grab the snacks and enjoy. For beverages, wine or warm tea is always comforting. Whichever food and beverage gives you and your family the cozy feels I suggest incorporating them to enhance comfort. Now it may be a bit challenging during the busyness of the week, but on the weekends when there is extra time to enjoy, a comfort meal or a few treats are the perfect way to get in your comfort zone.
Find the Focus

What is the point of comfort without enjoying it with someone or something that calms the nerves and puts a smile on your heart and in your head. Movie night or game night with family and friends, curling up to a good book, quiet time with God and prayer? Maybe listening to music lowly in the background while journaling or crafting? Whatever the focus is, enjoy it. Layer on the comfort. You’ll be so glad you did.
Keeping it Realistic

There are ebbs and flows throughout a typical week and sometimes enjoying all of these things at once isn’t possible. I get it. And that’s okay. Life is going to life. But even if you can incorporate one of these tips into your weekly routine, I strongly suggest that you do. Comfort in your home isn’t about having everything perfect all the time. It’s about taking the time you have to create windows of opportunity to enjoy the comfort in small ways throughout the day, week or month.
If you take away anything, remember this— comfort is always optional, but it shouldn’t be. Allow space for creating comfort in your home. It brings joy, and rest. And remember, the goal is peace, not perfection. As women, these are the things we want our homes to embody. This is the environment we want to create without end.
