[4 minute read] I love a fresh start to a new year. Of all the many ways one can improve their life and start fresh with a new year, I truly believe that putting God first and focusing on your faith is the ultimate glow-up for the new year and really for anything. We are going to discuss 5 faith focused goals to kickstart the year so that you can begin this year focused in your faith.
Why Faith Focused Goals Are Important
I don’t know about about you but every time I start a new year I have a list of things I want to improve, start or even stop. Whether it deals with fitness, organization, procrastination, or career, the goals are ready and set. But as a woman of God, I know that my main focus is my faith and those goals are the priority. Faith focused goals not only keep our minds focused on God but they also help to keep our lives aligned with the Word of God. And we are all out here fighting the good fight, so let’s get into it.
#1 PRAY!

This may seems so obvious but I have to say it. Pray, pray and pray more. 1 Peter 5:8 states to “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” If the enemy is working overtime, we need to be praying overtime. Praying for protection, praying for guidance, praying for wisdom and understanding, and the list goes on and on. Whenever you don’t feel like praying, that’s especially when you should pray. Prayer is our way as children of God to communicate with our Heavenly Father. Imagine being a relationship with someone and not ever talking to them. How exactly would that work? Right..it wouldn’t.
#2 AFTER YOU PRAY, LISTEN

Take time to sit and just listen. After you pray, spend time and just wait for the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart. Before you make any moves, or plan out your year or even your day, take time to listen. Remember, prayer is a not only about speaking to God, but we also have to take time to hear from God.
#3 READ & STUDY YOUR BIBLE

This is extremely important. The Word of God is our guidebook as followers of Christ. It helps us to know what God would have us to do in certain situations, it convicts us as believers and it helps us understand how to conduct ourselves in this world which is not our final destination. In order to not be misled by this world, reading the bible is essential.
…but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither- whatever they do prospers.
-Psalms 1:2-3 [NIV]
#4 TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY

Simply put, your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit dwells (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Taking care of our bodies by exercising, eating nutritious foods and making sure your body is hydrated is the key to having a strong and healthy body. Think about the foods you are consuming. Are they helping or hurting you in the long run? Think about how strengthening your body helps you to be stronger, feel better, think clearer and relieve stress. Again, the Holy Spirit Dwells within each of us, making sure the dwelling place is properly prepared is a tremendous dedication to our honoring of God.
#5 GUARD YOUR HEART

Be mindful of what you are watching, reading, and listening to. Imagine God sitting next to you while you’re listening to music that offends Him. Imagine reading a book or watching a movie that is full of curse words or perversion. Think carefully about the things that you are allowing to enter into your heart and mind.
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
-Proverbs 4:23 [NIV]
Tips to Carry out the actionable steps above
Be intentional. Ask God to help you on your walk each day. These are all things that will undoubtedly help you in your walk with God in 2025 and beyond. Intimacy and connection are what we should all be striving for. Righteousness and perfecting our faith too. Being intentional with these things are sure to help you grow in your relationship with God.
Conclusion
Take these 5 faith focused goals and work to take action in carrying them out each day this year. Pray, listen, read your bible, take care of your body and guard your heart. Does anyone have any of these goals on their list for 2025? If so, let me know in the comments!

Thank you for reminding us that taking care of our bodies both spiritually and physically are important in our walk with God ❤️
