[3 minute read] We know the saying, “The days are long but the years are short”. The days seem to be an ever existing plate of things to do and as a mom, let’s just say, it gets rough! With all that must be done as a mom, we have to remember to take care of ourselves by practicing self-care, it’s better for everyone that way.
I know, I know…there’s pickups, drop offs, homework, evening routines and before we know it, it’s bed time. And you don’t have to tell me that you stay up late to have time to yourself because, same!! It’s like that sometimes. But I am here to tell you that there is a way to take time for yourself that doesn’t involve staying up way past your bedtime. All it takes is a bit of intentionality and discipline. Without further delay, let’s get right into this quick read on 3 ways to practice self-care as mom.
Self-care Practice #1

You’re not going to like it but sis….get up early! Yes, early. Whatever early is for you, do it. I can attest to the fact that there is nothing like getting up early to have time to yourself. You can spend time in the Word, feeding yourself spiritually (which we all need), spend time exercising, or even enjoying a fresh cup of tea or coffee, alone, in peace. The desire to stay in bed longer will be a thing of the past once you are able to experience that early morning quiet-time before your household begins to rise.
Self-care Practice #2

Schedule time to do the things you enjoy. If you can only snag time to get a massage or head to the nail salon on Fridays afterwork or on Wednesdays while the kids are at school and you have extra time after preparing the meal for the evening do it! You may not be able to have an entire spa treatment for several hours at a time but even 30 minutes to an hour or hour and a half is helpful for recalibrating your mind and body. You deserve to feel good, not ONLY because you’re a mother, but because you’re human and it’s healthy.
Self-care Practice #3

Go to bed on time and hydrate! Listen, I’m never going to tell you not to get your rest. If you go to bed on time, you can awaken in the morning feeling rested and ready for the day ahead. Never underestimate a good night’s sleep. Also, keeping yourself hydrated helps you to feel better in general. Water helps your body to function optimally and again, it’s healthy.
These are practical yet effective ways to practice self-care as a mom. Whether you’re a full-time working mom, a full-time stay at home mom or anything in between, these self-care practices can assist you in finding time to pour into you so that you can feel your best and be your best for your family.
