Honestly, 24 hours on any given day is never enough. But maybe just maybe, we aren’t suppose to have all the time in the world to do all the things.
This makes me think back to a story I heard years ago about utilizing time. It went like this…imagine an empty jar. Fill it with sand which represents the less important things in life, small rocks which represent somewhat important things in life and finally any large rocks which represent the most important things in your life. In that order. Did everything fit in the jar that you wanted? Were you able to include all of your big rocks? Did most of your less important things in life take up the space in your jar?
Now start all over. Add the larger rocks first, the smaller rocks second, and the sand last. I’m pretty sure all of your large rocks fit inside the jar this time which is what is most important.
So think about it for a moment, if we only have 24 hours in a day…something is going to be left undone. It’s inevitable. And if you are able to accomplish everything on your to do list, wonderful job, but did you keep the main thing the main thing? If so, God is in the time redeeming business so keep it up!! If not, give yourself grace, none of us are perfect but we do serve a perfect God.
For us as Christian Women, having a relationship with and being connected to our Heavenly Father is not only special, and sacrificial, it’s also a non-negotiable. Start with God first. Everyday. He’s the big big rock! Pray, open your Bible, and take time to commune with God before the day takes off.
When Jesus was in the wilderness fasting for 40 days and 40 nights, the devil tried to tempt him by asking Jesus to turn the stones into food if he was the Son of God. In Matthew 4:4 Jesus responds and tells the devil “No, the scriptures say, people do not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
We need the Word of God to guide us daily. Psalms 119:105 tells us that the Word of God is a lamp to guide our feet and a light for our path. Even better is the fact that not only is God’s Word guidance for us, it’s also the sword of the Spirit which is a weapon that helps us in spiritual battle (Ephesians 6:17). Again, big rocks first.
“Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Ephesians 6:17 NLT
There are many things to be done each day for all of us. Our days will take many forms and be filled with ups, downs and everything in between. If we bring God into our days with us before they even begin, we have sustenance for good spiritual health we have guidance, we have an offensive weapon for spiritual battle and we are immensely better off than had we not brought God into our day from the beginning. I know I don’t need to say it again, but…big rocks first. 🪨♥️
